Courier Journal Education Lab Campaign
This alternate version featured the headline “Get the F Out! Bring the A’s In.”, using a mix of humor and urgency to capture attention and drive engagement. The creative direction paired bold typography with layered textures and notebook-inspired elements to evoke a familiar classroom feel while reinforcing the campaign’s call to action for educational change.
In partnership with the University of Louisville, the Courier Journal launched the Education Lab, a community-funded initiative aimed at addressing Kentucky’s most pressing education challenges through solutions-based journalism. The campaign visuals centered on urgency and hope — pairing bold, data-driven headlines (“79% of Kentucky 8th graders are behind in math”) with clear, optimistic messaging (“100% of students deserve a fair chance”). The design direction balanced stark educational statistics with a sense of progress and empowerment, using contrasting color overlays, dynamic typography, and strategic white space to guide focus and inspire action.
